The Hupomone™ Living Story
When our founder, Amber, was in the 1st grade, she met her first friend, Porcia. They were two peas in a pod - best friends - joined at the hip in the classroom, the hallways, and annual birthday parties. On the last day of their junior year of high school, Porcia unexpectedly passed away. In Amber's attempt to begin understanding her passing, she parked outside her house for answers.
With her head on the steering wheel, and clothes drenched in tears, she screamed for answers. For the first time ever she heard the voice of God tell her to “Look up!”. She looked up and saw the word “HUPOMON” on Porcia's license plate. She'd never seen or heard of that word before. So she googled it and learned that it’s the Greek word for "patience, endurance, and perseverance". It’s “someone who’s not defined by what they go through, and they hold on to their faith regardless of what life throws at them.”
HUPOMONE (hoo-pom-on-ay):patience, endurance, and perseverance".
Amber was too young to understand what that word actually meant so she tucked it away in her heart.
A year later she graduated from high school, knowing nothing about her life would ever be the same.
When Amber left home for college, her silent mental health struggles went with her. She was unknowingly struggling with grief and chronic stress that became deep anxiety and depression. She went to therapy and unfortunately was paired with a therapist that didn't understand her cultural needs. So after that first session, she went back to her dorm room and started her own healing journey with: her faith in God, her journal, her planner, and a desperate prayer.
In Amber's last semester of college, God asked her to pull the word "HUPOMONE" back out. Instantly she realized all the things she'd gone through - and would continue to go through - was molding 'patient endurance' in her.
She just had to make the choice to keep waking up and living.
LIVING: having life, being alive, to keep waking up, choosing to live.
As the years flew by, Amber's journals filled up and her faith got stronger. She realized she was healing, walking in her purpose, and building something that was bigger than her - it was for you.
We share this story with you because there’s no Hupomone™ Living without Porcia. We exist because she placed that word on her car tag, and God allowed Amber to see it for a purpose much bigger than her.
